Your to-do list is a hydra.
Now you have a plan.
Cut off one head, two more appear. HydraTask is a task manager for brains that fight executive dysfunction — kind by design, honest to a fault, and secretly an adventure.
No account. No cloud. No analytics. Everything stays on your phone.
The Hydra King rises only when today's list is truly cleared. That's the rule: nothing in the game is fake.
Built for starting, continuing, and finishing — not for feeling bad.
Most task apps assume you just need a list. HydraTask assumes the list is the easy part. Its whole job is the moment between knowing what to do and doing it.
Today's Hydra
A short, honest list of what today actually holds — pulled from what's due and what you chose. "Not today" is always an answer.
Break it down
One tap turns a mountain into a few small steps. The first move is the only one you have to take.
Nudges, never nagging
A task that sits quiet for a while gets a curious check-in — "Want to break this down?" — never "overdue," never "again."
Focus sessions
Just Start 5 · Sprint 15 · Focus 25 · Deep Work 50. Time on the record is factual; there's nothing to grind.
Horizon & Compass
A week-by-week planner you can drag things across, plus two card decks — Take Soundings (how big?) and Plot the Course (how urgent?).
Balance, not guilt
Five life domains — Self Growth, Education, Life, Work, Recreation — and a plain picture of where your week went. It reports. It never judges.
The game may help you start. Only your life can move you forward.
"I'm stuck. Help me move."
Other apps answer what do I have to do? NOW answers the real question. It asks one thing — what kind of stuck are you? — and each answer has a real way out.
😵 Overwhelmed
Everything competes. NOW hands you exactly one next quest — start it, swap it, or make it smaller.
😐 Bored
Capacity, no pull. Three doors: a Quick Hit, an Adventure, or a Boss Hunt.
😤 Resistant
You know the task; you'd do anything else. Make it ridiculous, warm up, break it apart, or swap targets on purpose.
🧭 Strategist
One thing is too big or too vague. Draw the path — then NOW hands you just the first move.
🔋 Depleted
A warm-up battle for zero XP, then one real move. Activation, not accomplishment — and it locks until real work restores it.
After any real move: "Got another one in you?" — and stopping is always a fine answer. One real move is a won day. Say "I'm stuck" to Siri and you land here.
Real work powers a real adventure.
Every completed task lands a blow. Every finished project fells a boss. And the moment you want quiet, one switch leaves a complete, plain task manager behind — your record untouched.
84 heroes
Each in two styles, each with a battle kit, two super powers, taglines, and victory lines that name your real task. 30 ride with the Caravan or are earned by level.
77 monsters
Mythology, folklore, and originals — with home arenas, difficulty tiers, regenerators, and specials. Locked mobs never ambush you.
Two apex bosses
The Task Master appears only when a whole routine is done. The Hydra King rises only when Today's Hydra is cleared — and brings the Hydranado.
Meet a few of the crew — and what's waiting for them
Twelve themed seasons. Buy once, yours forever.
The Caravan — the built-in roster — is a complete game on its own. Seasons add heroes and monsters to it, and nothing you've earned ever moves behind a purchase.
A partner who keeps you honest. And a family tier on the way.
Accountability partner
You stay in charge of your own completions. Share the photo with a friend who keeps you honest — a witness, not a gatekeeper.
Proof taken now
Proof is a live photo, never one from the library — so an old picture can't stand in for finished work.
Routines
Morning, chores, homework — install a routine as a batch. Finish every task in it and the Task Master appears.
Grey mode
Optional: the phone goes grey when a routine is installed and gets its color back when the Task Master falls. Powered by two Shortcuts you create once.
Everything on-device
Photos stored inside the app. No family accounts, no servers, nothing to leak.
HydraTask Family — coming soon
A one-time unlock in a later update: guardian sign-offs with a PIN-protected approvals queue, family routines, and real app shields that open when the work is done.
One app. Optional seasons. No ads, ever.
Purchases go through Apple; HydraTask never sees your payment details.

Questions people actually ask
Is this a game or a task manager?
A task manager first. The game is a reward layer on top — and there's a single switch that turns it off completely, leaving a calm, plain app with your record untouched.
Where is my data?
On your phone. There's no account, no server, no sync, no analytics. If you want a copy, export an encrypted .ht3 backup and keep it wherever you like.
Can I cheat the game?
Not really. XP comes only from the record, one-time rewards fire once per task no matter how often you toggle it, warm-up battles pay nothing, and photo proof has to be taken live.
Will the guardian need their own phone?
No. Guardian mode arrives with HydraTask Family (a one-time unlock, coming in a later update) and works on the one device: the guardian sets a PIN and approves in person. It's designed for a parent looking over a kid's shoulder, not remote monitoring.
Do I have to buy seasons?
No. The Caravan roster is a complete game. Seasons add themed heroes and monsters; the Pass opens all of them while it runs, and anything you bought outright stays yours after you cancel.
I'm sensitive to motion. Is this going to be a problem?
We designed for it. Every battle effect has a Reduce Motion alternate, and with Reduce Motion on you get longer telegraph windows — the game gets kinder, not harder. The site's animation above stops too.
